Review of Dragon Ball Super Ep. 98 Well I Guess that was OK--WTF!?

Ok, that was pretty good.

Goku is surrounded and the Kaioshin of Universe Nine: Roh takes the time to mock him. He faces the trio de danger alone, pacing himself by keeping his normal form. Goku doesn’t seem that concerned but the three use group tactics. Lavender tries to poison him like he did Gohan but Goku forms a barrier of ki which keeps the poison away. The three are not finished however; they keep attacking from different directions, forcing Goku on the defensive. Seeing Goku struggling, Vegeta enters the fight. The two argue over who will solo them but while they do this the rest of Universe nines fighters move in to join the fight. Watching this, Whis points out that Goku and Vegeta are incapable of working together which worries Shin.

The fight begins and the two Saiyans are pressed. The groups tactics overwhelm Vegeta while Goku’s opponent Cappil has iron skin his strikes cant penetrate. The fight nears the edge of the arena with both Saiyan’s struggling, when Vegeta’s arm is frozen by Hyssop who has been waitng in the wings for an opening. As Universe nine closes in Vegeta dodges and Lavender is hit by his own teammates attack. Goku in turn goes Super sayian and kocks Cappil and another fighter out of the ring. Vegeta then takes out the claw women who was fighting him only to get tied up by Oregano who uses spider silk-like threads Vegeta simply goes super Saiyan and disintegrates both then and the ice and takes out Oregano and Hyysop.

After Goku and Vegeta’s victories only the trio de danger remains. They attempt a combined beam attack but Goku and Vegeta go super sayian blue. With a final flash and a Kamehameha they easily overpower the attack and knock the brothers out.

With all of universe 9 fighters out the grand priest declares that the universe will be erased which Zen-oh immediately does, erasing the fighters, the gods and the universe itself to the shock and horror of almost everyone in the ring.

After last week’s episode this one was a breath of fresh air, in that something signifying actually happened. The animation was OK but has not yet caught up to the high point a few episodes ago when Goku went around with Freeza. It was also interesting seeing the various special powers on display, and somewhat boring how easily Goku and Vegeta overcame them with raw strength. But their quick victories move the plot along and made way for one of the best episode endings I’ve seen in a while.

While the fighting was so-so the ending was amazing. It was creepy the way Zen-oh just erased the universe while the Grand Priest and the angel of universe Nine: Mojito gave rather creepy smiles and everyone else just looked on in shock and horror. Very few episodes for super manage to evoke those emotions.

This was a satisfying episode; hopefully next week’s episode focusing on Kuririn and Eighteen will be satisfying as well.
