Looks are everything, far more important than one’s
personality, which is usually pretty shitty. It’s a horrible moral but it makes
for good comedy.
Makabe Masamune is a teenage narcissist who spends all his free
time working out on the premise that looks are all that matter. After recently transferring
schools he has begun climbing the schools social hierarchy on his looks and a
social facade. He soon meets Aki Akagi, she is an attractive rich girl and her
hobby is publicly humiliating any boy who asks her out. For some reason many
girls admire her for this. Makabe immediately begins stalking her. Not because
he is in love with her, but because she hurt him in the past and he is on a
quest to humiliate her through a painful breakup.
There is always something amusing about watching people
behave in a blatantly immoral matter. Aki and Makabe are popular in school for
all the shallowest reasons. In reality they are both cruel, people who love
being in the limelight. Yet that discrepancy between public and private
perceptions is their charm.
Unless you are new to romantic comedies you should be able to
see where the plot is going. Makabe in the process of wooing Aki will probably
fall in love himself. But something doesn’t have to be original to be good. Don’t expect to be blown away but expect to be
amused. The animation is good, the plot is OK, and the characters are
entertaining. The show promises to be
enjoyable and amusing. It’s worth giving a look.
